Yesterday a client asked about the much discussed runners zone. This particular client gave running a chance and found that she could never get "in the zone." The question was "How long during your run does it take to get "in the zone." Specifically during your half. She has friend who has recently fallen in love (become obsessed) with running. He claims he gets "in the zone" around mile 3. My answer for the 1/2 was mile 7? I don't know. This got the wheels churning. Maybe that's why I continue to run. Chasing the ever illusive "zone". Is it like being an addict and after you've been running for so long it takes more and more mileage to get into the zone and achieve a runners high? I realize that running in ny really doesn't allow me to enter that zone. No fault but my own as I prefer not running in circles and not having to worry about so many other factors that city runners deal with while running.
Perhaps, I'm no different from the druggie chasing his next high.
Hopefully, I'll hit my stride and enter "the zone" this weekend while running in PA.
